Saw a GREAT show Thursday at The Station Inn. "18 South" is just a fantastic band in every way, shape and form. They even had a little help last night. Gary Nicholson ended up onstage singing a song he had in the movie "Crazy Heart".

I wonder what a writer feels like when he sees someone singing one of his songs on the silver screen? And even better.. that actor wins an Academy Award for the movie.

Along with Nicholson was Delbert McClinton who sang "Two More Bottles Of Wine" "Starting A Rumor" and a couple of others.

Headed out in here in an hour or so to see Malcolm Holcombe at Douglas Corner.

Should be another excellent night of music, with Malcolm you always know your are in for a treat.

But the big story this week are the "freebies". There are two that jump out as outstanding.

Saturday in Centennial Park will be the first of the "Musicians Corner" concerts. They continue through July and maybe longer. The lineup for the first show...

Centennial Park is a beautiful place, and these concerts in the park should be fun.

Then Wednesday the Station Inn has a "writers night". Rather unusual for them. I'm not sure what is going on, but it's listed as free and the lineup is as follows:

Kacey Muscgraves

You simply do not want to miss a chance to see Rodney Crowell, and you're not going to beat the price.

The "Big Show" of the week is Mary Chapin Carpenter at the Tennessee Performing Arts Center. I just checked the tickets and there are a few $15 balcony seats left... I think my entertainment budget might be able to handle that.

Music in the park, world class songwriters, and all on a limited budget.

Mickey & Music

I got up early yesterday and decided it was time to drop a few quarters in the slots at the casino. I got on the bus and sat down next to a lady, probably about my age, and it ended up being a very nice trip.

This lady has worked for BMI for nearly 20 years, starting out in New York and then Nashville. She has her retirement set for February.

I noticed she was reading what looked like a children's book.. Something from Disney.

She told me that since she can remember she has had two main interests in her life. Anything Disney, and Santa Claus. "I live in a fantasy world really." She grew up, got married, had kids, had a career. everything "normal" people do. But the fascination with Mickey and Santa was always there. She has went to Florida at least once a year to Disney World for many years and tells me she knows every inch of the Disney property.

She has bought a one bedroom travel trailer, and a lot to put it on. She's taken the job interview, and been hired.

In February she starts driving one of the tour buses at Disney World.

A lot of people have had some concerns about coming to Nashville since the flood, but I think that's pretty well over. An estimated 100,000 people hit the downtown area July 4th for a great fireworks display and quite the little party.

Do not hesitate !! Head for Nashville, it's the best city in the world.

Especially if you like music, any kind of music. I saw two great shows last week and will see two more this week. Thursday it's the Station Inn for "18 South". John Randall Stewart and his wife Jesse Alexander have put together a little band with Mike Bub, Guthrie Trapp, Jimmie Wallace and Larry Atamanuik. They are fantastic!!! Here's six and a half minutes of what my night will be like Thursday.

Then Friday it's on to Douglas Corner for Malcolm Holcombe. I've been following Malcolm around for the past many years.. He's not like anyone else you will see or hear. If you ever get the chance to see a Malcolm show... DO NOT MISS IT !!

I'm not sure what it is about Malcolm, I'm not sure anyone else knows.. He's just special.
